Edward Vaughan was born in 1876 in Horsham, Victoria, the seventh of 13 children of Frederick Vaughan (1847-1907) and his wife Lucy Pearce (1846-1936). Frederick Vaughan was a watchmaker and jeweller in Horsham and later in Launceston. Edward would have been 15 years old at the time of the Exhibition.
Edward married Rachel Jane (Jeanie) Moore on 25 Dec 1897 at the residence of her parents, 18 Elizabeth Street, Launceston. Jane, born at Youngtown in Aug 1871, was the daughter of John and Catherine Moore. Edward and Jane's twins, Arthur Edward George and Phyllis Olive Recardo, were born on 16 Aug 1898. Edward was a boilermaker at the time of his marriage, but later worked as a miner. On 20 Jun 1906 he died aged 30 from phthisis (tuberculosis), probably at the home of his parents in Charles Street, Launceston. Edward was buried at Carr Villa in Section B 174, and his father was buried with him almost seven months later.
During the First World War, on 25 Aug 1918, Edward and Jane's son Arthur was killed in France. Edward's widow Jane and daughter Phyllis later moved to NSW. Phyllis married Tasmanian-born Albert Knowles, and in 1923 had a son, Robert Esmond Knowles. Rachel Jane Vaughan died on 10 Sep 1943 at her residence, 43 Avoca Street, Bondi.
