Elliot Tarlton was the youngest son of Robert Alfred Tarlton (1828-1918) and his second wife Sophia Walters Turner. He was born in Launceston in 1884. He moved to South Africa with his family in 1893, and later lived in Kenya. He achieved the rank of Captain during the First World War. See The Examiner 19 Aug 2006, p. 33.
