Grace Darling Gould was born in Launceston on 6 Nov 1875, the youngest of six children of Thomas Gould (1814-1879), a baker, pastry cook and confectioner, and his third wife Maria Dukenfield, nee Darling. When her mother and father died, in Sep 1878 and Oct 1879 respectively, four-year-old Grace was reared by her half-sister Elizabeth Fanny who had married James Steer in 1865. Grace's surname was given as Steer in the Album. Elizabeth and James and their six children are also pictured in the Family Album, as are Grace's sister Alice and brother Charles Gould, half-sister Jane Crossley and Joscelyne and Gladman relations.
Grace married Tasman Charles Gurr in Launceston on 14 Mar 1900. Their first child Thelma was born on 26 Mar 1901 at Burnie. The next two were born in Launceston: Alan on 28 Mar 1905 and Jean on 24 Nov 1909. The family then moved to New Town, Hobart, where Betty was born on 16 Mar 1913. Tasman died aged 77 in Feb 1954 and Grace was cremated on 5 Oct 1954.
