Evelyn Kate Ritchie, known as Kate, was born on 10 Oct 1873, the youngest of 12 children born to George Ritchie and his wife Charlotte Danvers. George was the fourth child of Captain Thomas Ritchie RN and Hannah Harris of 'Scone', Perth. Charlotte was the daughter of John Danvers and Mary Shirbert of Green Ponds. On 26 Sep 1891, not long after this portrait was taken, 17-year-old Kate married Robert Morton Hepburn at Launceston. Their daughter Millicent was born on 1 Jul 1892 at Fingal. Kate tragically died at the Launceston General Hospital of thrombosis two months later on 23 Aug 1892. She was buried at Avoca. Her brother Sydney and 11 cousins are also pictured in the Family Album.
