Eliza Jane Rees was born in Fingal on 6 Nov 1857, the eldest of eleven children of David Rees and his wife Ann Oliver. She was living with Rudolph Wachsmuth at the time of the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. They married in Sydney on 8 May 1893. Rudolph's first wife Alicia (Alice) had left him in 1882 and died in Sydney in 1887. Eliza and Rudolph were involved in the amateur musical life of Launceston in the early 20th century. Eliza was a soprano in the Exhibition Choir. She died on 20 Oct 1937 at North Carlton, Victoria, and was buried at Fawkner Cemetery.
