Henry John Peters was born in Launceston on 14 Jan 1870, the seventh of eight children of Jonathan Peters and his wife Elizabeth White. Henry married Helen Sarah Swainston in Launceston on 12 Oct 1898. He joined the public service on 1 Feb 1885, and was appointed to the Electric Telegraph Department on 1 Jan 1888. Henry and Helen's first three children, Elvie, Albert and Doris were born between 1901 and 1906 when they were living at 6 Patrick Street, Launceston. Their fourth child Robert was born in 1909 after they had moved to 30 Mulgrave Street. Helen died on 26 Feb 1943 aged 72 and Henry died at the Launceston General Hospital on 15 Feb 1960 at the age of 90. They were interred together at Carr Villa in Section E 282.
