Mrs Emma Paterson, nee Boston, was born about 1842. She came from England with her husband John Paterson and son John Edwin in 1876. Her daughter Emma Martha was born in Sydney in 1876, and the three younger children were born in George Town, Tasmania. Her husband John, born in Glasgow, was the captain of the Tamar River steamer Indignant until his death aged 49 in Sep 1887. Emma took over the ownership of the steamer. In the early morning of 10 Oct 1893, when the SS Indignant was tied up at the George Town jetty loaded and ready to sail, she caught fire, burned to the waterline and sank. Emma was still a steamship owner in 1903. She died aged 75 on 1 Apr 1917 at George Town. Her son John Edwin is also in the Family Album.
