Percy Claude Parker was born on 25 Nov 1872, the youngest of seven children born to Robert John Parker (c.1837-1903) and his wife Jane Roberts (c.1840-1924). By 1901 Percy had moved to England where he was an electrical engineer for the Electrical Suppy Company in Newcastle upon Tyne. He boarded with a widow, Martha Philipson, who had four daughters living at home. In 1905 he married one of these, Emily Harriett Philipson, a jeweller's assistant. They were living at 51 Holly Avenue, Newcastle, Northumberland, in 1921.
