Jeremiah Edward Joseph Nicholas, known by his second name of Edward, was a son of Edward Nicholas (1836-1917) from Cornwall, England, and his wife Mary Ann Sidebottom (1839-1924). Edward was born in Naseby, New Zealand, in 1867. He came to Tasmania with his family, first to Hobart, then Launceston. In 1891-92 he was a member of the Exhibition Choir along with other members of the extended Nicholas family. Edward was a grocer's assistant.
On 25 Dec 1895, he married Amy Isobel Davis, a daughter of Samuel and Margaret Davis of 'Westwood'. The Christmas Day wedding took place at St Oswald's Anglican Church, Trevallyn. Their two children were born at Invermay: Alice Mary (Polly) in Sep 1896 and Rex Edward in Aug 1901. Edward died aged 79 at Beaconsfield on 25 Sep 1946 and was privately interred at Carr Villa in Section C11 No. 44. He joined his wife Amy who had died in Jul 1939.
