Jeanetta Helen Milne was born about 1863 in Scotland. In 1877, when she was 24, she began nursing at the Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh. Her father died and her mother remarried. In 1884 she nursed in England, before arriving in Hobart in early 1885. Jeanetta was the third Lady Superintendent of Nursing to be appointed at the Launceston General Hospital, and was there from Aug 1886 until 1912. She then became Matron of Dr John Ramsay's new hospital, St Margaret's, until her retirement in 1928.
Her early training was under Miss Pringle, a close friend of Florence Nightingale and a great influence on Miss Milne's ability to initiate the Nurses' Training School in Launceston. Jeanetta adopted her niece Elizabeth Hutchinson Milne, who is also in the Launceston Family Album. She died on 27 May 1933 at St Helens. See The Examiner 10 Dec 2005, p. 35.
