Arthur McDonald was born in Launceston on 6 Jan 1862, the seventh of eleven children of John McDonald (1825-1924) and Ann Turner (1828-1883) who married in 1848 at Sculcoates, Hull, Yorkshire. John and Ann McDonald, with their two eldest children Richard and Agnes, sailed from London in Aug 1852 on the Australasia. They arrived in Hobart, but settled in Launceston.
Arthur was a tinsmith and tankmaker at W Hart & Son, Launceston. He married 21-year-old Jane McBean on 27 Dec 1887. She was the daughter of John and Janet McBean of 'Viewfield', Scottsdale. Their three children were born in Launceston: Edgar Arthur, 1891; Alma Olive, 1893 and Hilda Doris, 1897. Two of Arthur's brothers, John and Frank, are also in the Family Album. Arthur is possibly the A McDonald who played trombone in the Exhibition Orchestra. Arthur died at Jetsonville aged 90 on 1 Nov 1951. His ashes were interred in the Western Wall 297 B at Carr Villa.
