Vernon Elliot Lawrence was born at 'Billop' on 22 Jul 1875, a son of Effingham Billop Lawrence (1834-1908) and his second wife Grace Barnard. Vernon and his school friend Bayard Edgell exhibited mineral and geological specimens at the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. Vernon married Edith Hook on 3 Jul 1906 and their two children were born in Malvern, Victoria, in 1909 and 1911. Vernon worked at the Union Bank of Australasia in Launceston and then as manager of various branches in Victoria and NSW. He retired from the Wagga Wagga branch in 1938. He was an alderman for the Wagga Council and had a term as deputy mayor.
