Albert Stanislaus Jourdain married Alice Bowtell in Westminster, London, England, on 29 Dec 1877. Their daughter Claudine Alice was born in 1878 and son Sydney Albert in 1879. Albert was a businessman in London before migrating to Launceston, Tasmania, in 1881. They arrived in Melbourne on the Sobraon on 1 Jan 1881 and later travelled to Launceston. Their son Henry Edward was born there on 30 Oct 1881. The first position he held in Launceston was as a confidential clerk to Messrs Rooke and Maddox, wine and spirit merchants. After three years he was appointed as secretary of the Launceston Club. After a short period in Gravelly Beach he returned to Launceston and for 11 years worked for Messrs Ducroz, Smith, and Co. (later C H Smith and Co.). He inherited a substantial legacy from his mother and retired to live the life of a country gentleman near Ulverstone in early 1897. On occasions he suffered from depression and neuralgic pains in the head, and it was hoped that these would cease when he retired from business. He was greatly respected by all who knew him, and although reserved, he was a sociable and entertaining companion. But his retirement was short-lived, as on 26 Jul 1897 he was discovered on the Ulverstone Beach with a bullet wound to his head. The inquest into his shocking death found that he was temporarily insane due to an abscess on the brain. He was 56 years of age.
