Mrs Adelaide Joubert was the second wife of Jules Francois de Sales Joubert, the organiser of the Tasmanian Exhibition held in the Albert Hall, Launceston, in 1891-92. Born in London about 1833, Adelaide was the seventh of nine children of Nathan Philip Levi (1794-1843) and Sarah Goldsmid (1798-1889) who were married in London at the Great Synagogue in 1819. Adelaide married Jules Joubert on 27 Feb 1855 at Christ Church, North Adelaide, South Australia. They settled at Hunters Hill, NSW, where their ten children were born.
Jules Joubert was born 31 Jul 1824 in the department of Charente in western France, arriving in Sydney on the French corvette Heroine in 1841 and leading a colourful life thereafter, speculating in land and construction in Adelaide and later in Sydney and starting a ferry company. He became secretary of the Agricultural Society of NSW, after which he was associated with organising 50 exhibitions throughout the world, including Perth, Melbourne, Christchurch, Dunedin and Calcutta. In April 1891 Jules and Adelaide arrived in Launceston with their youngest daughter Leah to consult on the Tasmanian Exhibition held at the Albert Hall in 1891-92. Soon after, they moved to Hobart, where Jules organised the Exhibition which was held in 1894-95. Jules died in Melbourne on 24 Aug 1907. Adelaide died three years later, in 1910.
