Arthur Erskine Hunt was born on 23 Jul 1876 to William Holman Hunt (1847-1906) and his wife Emma Fitzgerald, formerly Dean (1844-1910). He started at the Launceston High School in Frederick Street in 1886. He served with the Second Imperial Bushmen Contingent in the Boer War in South Africa. A corporal when the contingent left Hobart in 1901, he was promoted to sergeant in 1902. He was a captain with the First AIF in World War I. At the time of his enlistment he was a clerk living in Newstead. Arthur married Mary Maud Belinda O'Neill on 10 Oct 1904 and the couple had five children between 1905 and 1916. Arthur was for many years an officer in the Launceston branch of the Taxation Office. Arthur died on 11 Feb 1950 and was survived by his widow and his five children.
