George Pridden Hudson was born about 1833-34, in Leeds, Yorkshire, to James John Hudson, of Hudson and Hopwood, booksellers, and his wife Elizabeth Rothery. George came to the colonies with his parents when he was 20 years of age. On 29 Oct 1862 he married Catherine Christiana (May) Sherwin, daughter of Isaac and Catherine Sherwin of Alice Place, Launceston. They had five children, all born in Launceston: Alice, 1863; Kate, 1865; Henry, 1868; Mabel, 1870 and Jessie, 1873. Catherine died in May 1880 aged 41, when her youngest child, Jessie, was six years old. Jessie is pictured in this Album.
George had an accounting business, Hudson & Murrell, brokers, auditors, general commission, insurance and manufacturers' agents at 70 St John Street. He sang in the Tasmanian Exhibition Choir as a bass in 1891-92. George succumbed to a surgical operation at the Homeopathic Hospital, Melbourne, on 11 Apr 1896, in his 63rd year. His remains were brought from Melbourne on the Coogee. A funeral service was held at the Paterson Street Methodist Church before he was interred at the General Cemetery in Charles Street.
