Gertrude Isabel Hely was the eldest of three children born to George Thomas Hely (1847-1877) and Emma Barton (born 1849) who were married on 1 Jan 1872. On 9 Aug 1897 when Gertrude was 24 she married 27-year-old James William Southon, an accountant, in Launceston. They had one son James Ronald on 16 Sep 1903 at 22 Claremont Street, Launceston. James junior married Dorothy Goldie, had one daughter Annette and died in Oct 1961.

Gertrude's husband James died on 1 Aug 1948. Gertrude died aged 84 on 29 Apr 1957. Their ashes were scattered. James is also pictured in the Family Album.
