Frederick Hart was the ninth of eleven children of William Doubleday Hart (1801-1847) and his wife Ann Green (c.1802-1891), who arrived in Launceston in 1833 on the ship Helen Mather. Frederick was born in Launceston on 5 Mar 1843 and attended the new school in Tamar Street run by Rev. Charles Price. He was probably sent to Campbell Town to take over the business of Joseph Brickhill who had been killed in his shop by his Airedale watchdog in Feb 1865. Frederick married Brickhill's adopted daughter, Maria Jane Smith, in 1868. Their daughter Mabel was born on 29 Mar 1870 but Maria died six months later on 24 Sep.
Frederick married Mary Elizabeth Brownell, a daughter of Dr Brownell, on 6 Nov 1873 at the residence of W F Brownell in Hobart. Their son Frederick William was born in 1874. Frederick senior was a storekeeper, the proprietor of Hart & Co., Campbell Town. He was a Justice of the Peace, a Municipal Councillor for 10 years, a magistrate, a coroner from Dec 1899 and a trustee of the Campbell Town Waterworks. He was connected with the Campbell Town Methodist Church and Sunday School, where he was a superintendent for 34 years. He was also a member of the Horton College Council and bred Jersey cattle. He died on 21 Jun 1907 aged 64 at his residence 'Mays' New Town Road, Hobart, and was buried in the Henry Street Methodist Cemetery, Campbell Town. His wife Mary died on 27 Sep 1911.
Three of Frederick's nephews: Ralph William, Edward Henry and Charles Anthony Hart, are also pictured in the Family Album.
