This is possibly Annie Elizabeth Groom who was born on 26 Sep 1869, the eldest of seven children of James Parker Groom (1837-1888) and Mary Ann Horne (1839-1882) who were married on 21 Dec 1868. Annie had just turned 13 when her mother died of consumption. Her father drowned in the Tamar River on 25 Sep 1888, the day before Annie's 19th birthday. Her only brother Alfred was killed when he was run over by the Mole Creek train in May 1893.
Annie is possibly the Miss Groom who conducted a private school at Deloraine. Miss Groom is mentioned in an article in The Launceston Examiner on 5 Mar 1892 when she and 14 of her pupils were part of a group from schools in the Deloraine district which visited the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92. Two of her sisters, Susan and Ida, are also in the Family Album.
Annie married William Listner, a farmer, on 21 Dec 1892. They had two sons. William Parker became a lawyer in Hobart. Cyril Leslie Horne, born about 1895, was accidentally shot as he climbed through a stone wall on 7 Aug 1922. The family lived at Waratah, and later at 'Groom Vale' or 'Kingsdon' at The Needles, near Deloraine. On 16 Sep 1898, at the age of 26, Annie was admitted to the New Norfolk Asylum where she died aged 66 on 22 May 1935. She was buried in the Methodist section of the Deloraine General Cemetery. William died aged 72 on 6 Oct 1946. He left most of his estate to his housekeeper Elizabeth Murfett.
