Herbert (Bert) Prosser Green was born on 4 May 1871 at South Yarra, Victoria, to John Thomas Green and his wife Jemima Prosser, who arrived as free immigrants from England. Herbert came to Launceston in the 1880s and was a warehouseman, living at the Launceston Gas Co. In the 1890s he became a traveller for PO Fysh & Co. In 1891-92 Herbert was a tenor in the Exhibition Choir.
On 26 Apr 1899 Herbert married Alice Maud Price, a daughter of Robert and Mary Price. They had two daughters and two sons between 1901 and 1912. He was a keen sportsman, playing cricket for the Nil Desperandum team in the junior league, as well as football. He was active in the Commercial Travellers' Association and in the Masonic fraternity. He died suddenly aged 55, after umpiring a cricket match, on 8 Nov 1926. He was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Section E No. 309. His future wife Alice Price is also pictured in the Family Album.
