Mrs Mary Stewart Forrest was born at 'Patterdale', Nile, on 23 Oct 1866, the second daughter of George Taylor (1841-1879) and his wife Jean Taylor (1840-1927), who were married on 2 Dec 1863. George was born at 'Valleyfield' and died at 'Wanstead' and Jean was born at 'Winton' and died at 'Ellesley', 4 Rooms Ave, Invermay. They were both buried at Kirklands, Campbell Town.
Mary Taylor was married to Edmund Philip Forrest on 7 Nov 1888 at her mother's residence 'Balveine', Invermay, by the Rev. John Lyle of the Presbyterian Church. The witnesses at the wedding were George Cragg and her older sister Georgina Taylor.
Mary and Edmund had three sons and two daughters. Their first child Gladys was born in Aug 1889 at 'Iberia Cottage', Inveresk. In 1891 they were living at 55 Lyttleton Street. By the time Edmund Charles was born in Feb 1895 they had moved to 'Allaleigh' at 31 Erina Street, East Launceston. Edmund junior enlisted in the 40th Battalion in Mar 1916 but was transferred to the Australian Flying Corps as a mechanic. He died tragically young, due to his war service, at 32 years of age, in Jul 1927. Their third child Alan Stewart was born in 1897, Jean Sommerville was born in 1902 and John Taylor in 1905. John died 9 months later on 2 Jan 1906. Mary died aged 69 on 6 Oct 1935 at a private hospital in Launceston. She was buried at the Carr Villa Cemetery with her infant son and husband who had died in Dec 1917. There is no headstone.
