Sarah Fletcher, the fourth child of William Henry Fletcher (1842-1899) and his wife Elizabeth Grindrod (1847-1934), was born at Barton, Lancashire, in 1875. The Fletcher family came to Australia when Sarah was 6 or 7 years old. The family had coal and wood yards at 71 Frederick Street, and were connected to the Launceston Telephone Exchange in 1892 with the number 131.
Sarah sang with one of her sisters, Mary or Ann, as a soprano in the Tasmanian Exhibition Choir in 1891-92. Known as Siss by her family she never married and died on 2 Feb 1930 in Sydney, where her sister Frances was living. One of her older sisters is also pictured in the Family Album together with two of her aunts, Mary Ann Fletcher and Elizabeth Munnew. See The Examiner 16 Sep 2006 p. 33.
