Beatrice Christina Ferguson was born on 8 Jun 1870, the eldest child of John Charles Ferguson (1842-1914), an ironmonger, and his wife Beatrice Hamilton (1846-1919). Beatrice was educated at the Methodist Ladies College, after which she was taught singing by Mr WD Thornthwaite in Launceston. She had a lyric soprano voice and later spent more than seven years in England where she became a member of the Alexandra Ladies' Quartet, performing in London and other cities.
On her return to Launceston Beatrice was a member of the Launceston Operatic Society and took part in musical comedies. For some years she was leader of St John's Choir and later conducted St Andrew's Choir. She also conducted a popular choir of 30 voices known as the Alexandra Ladies' Choir. Beatrice taught singing in Launceston and on the North-West Coast. For several years she was a social reporter in Launceston for The Mercury.
Beatice did not marry and died on 1 Mar 1951 aged 80. Her private funeral was at Carr Villa and she was buried with other members of her family in site B1 No. 100. See The Examiner 6 Jan 2007, page 26.
