Mrs Mary Amy Farmilo was born on 9 Jul 1862, the only daughter of Captain David Stewart, well-known as a pilot at Low Head, and his wife Catherine. Known by her second name, Mary Amy Stewart married John Farmilo on 14 Feb 1883 in Launceston. They had 10 children between 1884 and 1902, all born in Launceston. The eldest four are pictured in the Family Album.
The fifth child Victor, died as a baby in 1893 at Kelso on the West Tamar. The family moved to 'Morby', Northam, Western Australia, in 1906. Two of their children died there: Charlotte (Linda) on 16 Jun 1906 aged 20 and the youngest, Charles, aged four, on 12 Apr 1907. The eldest daughter Catherine (Kate), Arthur and John (Jack) stayed in WA, but the remaining family moved back to Launceston after a couple of years. The second youngest child, Gertrude, died aged 12 in 1912. John died in Launceston in 1933 and Mary may have moved to Sydney to be near her daughter Amy. She died in 1942 in the Newtown area of Sydney. See The Examiner 1 Oct 2005, p. 27.
