Elizabeth Helen (Nellie) Evans was born in Launceston on 6 Sep 1885, a daughter of Alexander Evans and his wife Elizabeth Grace Groom. Her mother Elizabeth and brothers Robin and Alexander are also in the Album.
Nellie married Frederick George Dougharty on 8 Dec 1915 at St John's Church, Launceston. Her husband was killed in action during World War I. His death is recorded on the Launceston Cenotaph as occuring 13 May 1918. Mrs Dougharty was involved in many charitable organisations and fund-raising activities in Launceston. Her adopted daughter Jeanette Roelvink recalled in her book, Small feet walking, the children's balls that Nellie organised which were held at the Albert Hall. Nellie left Launceston in 1955 and died in Queensland on 8 Aug 1968, aged 82. See The Examiner 23 Jun 2007, page 33 and 30 Jun 2007, page 43.
