Mrs Laura Jane Chamberlain Eddie was born in Campbell Town on 15 Oct 1870, the third of nine children born to Thomas Hardwicke (1825-1912) and his second wife Jane Wall Chamberlain. The Hardwicke family moved from Campbell Town to Fingal about 1874-75, then to Launceston about 1880-81. Thomas later took up farming at Lower Pipers River, where, on 29 Oct 1886, Laura's three-year-old sister Muriel died from whooping cough and bronchitis.
On 6 Aug 1889 Laura Hardwicke, aged 19, married 33-year-old surveyor George Theophilus Eddie at her father's residence 'Glen Fern' at Lower Pipers River. George's picture is also in the Album. Their first child George McKenzie was born in 1890. Maxwell, born in 1893, joined the AIF in the 6th Field Ambulance but later became a pilot and was killed in action on 5 Sep 1918. Geoffrey was born in 1896 and died in 1952. Their youngest child Nancie was born in 1905. After the death of her husband in Feb 1926, Laura moved to Sydney to live with her son Geoff and daughter Nancie. Laura died at a private hospital in Mosman on 24 Mar 1948.
