Harry Edward Dowsett was born on 18 Apr 1863 at 227 Maida Vale Road, Paddington, England, a son of Alfred Prince Dowsett and his wife Maria Rice. The Rice family lived in Debenham, Suffolk, England. Harry arrived in Victoria, Australia, with his parents and three brothers on the ship Somersetshire in Oct 1867. Two of his brothers, William and Frank, are also in the Album.
Harry married Florence Alma Beswick on 23 Sep 1894 in Launceston. Their first child Harry was born in Beaconsfield two months later. The family then moved to Mathinna where their four other children were born between 1895 and 1899: Doris Daisy, Frank Melbourne, Eileen and Ella. Doris Daisy died as a baby. Harry was a storekeeper and draper in Mathinna. By 1909 they had moved to Middle Park, Melbourne, where Harry worked as a storekeeper, then draper. Harry died at 'Thelma', 56 Armstrong Street, Middle Park, on 15 Sep 1936 aged 73.
Both his sons died in Melbourne, Harry in 1940, aged 45 and Frank in 1944, aged 47. Eileen and Ella returned from Melbourne to live at 23 Brougham Street, West Launceston. They both died at Cosgrove Park, Eileen in 1971 and Ella, with the name Daisy Baden Dowsett, in 1977.
