Mrs Elizabeth Jane Dempster was born in Devonport, Devon, England, on 2 Dec 1857 to Henry Hammond Blackmore, master carver and gilder, and his wife Elizabeth Jane Tapp. She emigrated to Melbourne, Australia, on the Queen of Nations in June 1873. She married Charles Dempster, warehouseman, on 4 Nov 1876 in St Kilda, Victoria. Their first four children were born in Victoria between 1877 and 1882. Elizabeth, her children and a nurse came to Launceston on the Flinders on 19 Dec 1882. The three youngest children were born in Launceston: Charles Hammond on 5 Nov 1884; Katie Howden on 12 May 1886 and Georgina on 12 Dec 1888. The family moved to Sydney after 1913. Elizabeth died on 13 May 1940 aged 82.
