Eli Daniels was born in Yorkshire, England, on 3 Oct 1858, a son of Benjamin Daniels and Sarah Brown. He came to Australia in 1880 and married Emma Lydia Bartlett on 3 Oct 1881 in the Fortitude Valley Baptist Church, Queensland. Their first two children were born in that state, Herbert Eli in 1882 and Emma Lydia Maud in 1884. The family moved to Launceston, Tasmania, in about 1886-87 as their son Ernest was born there in Oct 1887. The next four children were also born in Launceston between 1888 and 1893. Eli worked at the Invalid Depot in Paterson Street, Launceston, first as a clerk, then resident overseer and finally as superintendent. He was also in charge of the meteorological station there. He was a bass in the Exhibition Choir in 1891-92.
The family moved to Sydney, and then back to Queensland in 1901, where most of his descendants now live. Lydia died in 1913 and Eli married Sarah Hannah Strickland in 1919. Eli retired to a boarding house, 'Farrington House', in Alderley, Brisbane. He died aged 95 in 1953.
