Mrs Agnes Bulman of Waverley, Launceston, was born on 16 Jun 1838 in Earlston, Berwick, Scotland, the eldest daughter of Thomas Hogarth (1813-1881) and his wife Marion Gray (1814-1896). The Hogarth family migrated to Tasmania on the Great Tasmania in Jan 1857. They settled at 'Raeburn', Breadalbane. On 9 Mar 1865 Agnes Hogarth married Peter Bulman, a native of Edinburgh, Scotland. The marriage took place at the residence of her father and was conducted by the Rev. James Lindsay, the minister of Chalmers Free Church.
Peter Bulman established the Waverley Woollen Mills on the banks of Distillery Creek. Agnes placed the first wool on the carding machine on 13 May 1874. This was the first mill to produce woollen goods in Tasmania. Agnes' brother Robert Hogarth became the proprietor after the death of Peter in Feb 1896. Their niece Marion Hogarth is also pictured in the Album. Agnes died on 11 Nov 1894 aged 55. She was buried in the Scotch Cemetery.
