Marcus Francis Brownrigg was the eldest son of seven children born to Rev. Marcus Blake Brownrigg and his wife Georgiana Eliza Shapcote. He was born in 1866 in Albury, NSW. He came to Ross, Tasmania, in 1867 with his parents and older sister Katherine. The following year Rev. Brownrigg was appointed to St John's Church, Launceston, where he remained until 1887. Marcus junior started at the Launceston Church Grammar School in 1876. After leaving school he was employed by the Customs Department as a clerk in 1883. Following Federation in 1901 he became chief clerk and registrar of shipping. Marcus took an active part in St John's Church and was a member of the Launceston Cricket Club and Tamar Yacht Club.
In 1909 he was transferred to Melbourne, then Canberra, where he remained until his retirement in 1931. He moved to Melbourne and died there on 10 Feb 1934. See The Examiner 17 Mar 2007, page 37. Marcus' brother, Charles or Cecil, and sister Katherine are also in the Album.
