May Louisa Barkway was born at Cullenswood on 28 Aug 1856, the eldest child of Rev. Augustus Barkway and his wife Sarah Frances Wilmore. Sarah was a daughter of Dr Edmund Wilmore of 'Kinlet', Longford. May's parents were married at Longford on 4 Oct 1855. Sarah died in Launceston on 27 May 1894 aged 63 and Augustus on 27 Mar 1921, having been minister at St Paul's Church, Cleveland Street, for 49 years, from 1858-1907. His memorial at the base of the brass eagle lectern has been moved to St Paul's-by-the-Sea at Low Head. May Louisa did not marry and died in Launceston aged 67 on 24 Nov 1923. She was buried at Carr Villa in Section B9 No. 42. Two of her first cousins, Theresa and Isla Wilmore are also pictured in the Launceston Family Album. See The Examiner 5 May 2007, page 41.
