Amelia (Emmie) Baker was born in Launceston on 6 May 1872, the sixth of seven children of Edward Frederick Baker (c.1832-1912), a carpenter, and his wife Marianne (or Mary Annie) Lyle (c.1832-1904). On 15 Nov 1898 Emmie married William Oscar Curtis (1874-1951), the eldest son of John Rowe Curtis, Lefroy. William, the chief clerk of the Locomotive Branch of the Tasmanian Government Railways, was presented with a wedding gift of a purse of sovereigns and a travelling bag engraved with his name. The marriage took place at the residence of the bride's parents in Garfield Street and was conducted by the Rev. J G Wright. Emmie and William's five children were all born in Launceston: Jack, 1899; Trevor, 1902; William, 1905; Thomas, 1907 and Winifred, 1911. Emmie's sister Margaret (Maggie) Baker and her future husband William Curtis are also pictured in the Family Album. Amelia died on 16 Jan 1937.
