Harry Vernon Allison was born on 18 Jun 1871 at Sorell, the youngest son of Francis Thomas Allison (1820-1888) and Mary Ann Williams (c.1830-1899) who were married in Launceston on 27 Feb 1851. Harry was a bass in the Exhibition Choir of 1891-92. He later became a teacher of music in Deloraine, where he lived at 'Euterpe'.
On 10 Dec 1900, at Deloraine, Harry married Katherine Joan Mary Adams. Born in 1874, she was a daughter of schoolmaster Henry White Adams, who was teaching at Hagley. They had six children; all were given the name of Southey as their third or fourth name. The first two were born at Deloraine, David in Feb 1902 and Geoffrey in Jul 1903. Harry Robert, Dec 1905-Feb 1985, was born at Wivenhoe and attended the Launceston Church Grammar School. Alison, known as Joan, was born at Queenstown in Oct 1908, became a nurse and died aged 20 in Jul 1928. The two youngest children were born in Strahan, Stephen in Feb 1910 and Erica in Feb 1913. Then in 1915 Harry lost two children and his wife: two-year-old Erica died in May, five-year-old Stephen died in Aug and Katherine passed away at the Queenstown hospital on 10 Sep 1915.
Harry moved back to Launceston where he was an organist before he married Violet Rosabel Innes on 24 Nov 1925 at St George's Church, Burnie. The couple moved to New South Wales, living in Manly and later Glenbrook. Harry died on 30 Aug 1940 at 'Avro', Spreyton, the residence of Mr E A Walpole. He was buried privately at the Carr Villa Cemetery on Section D 384. Violet Allison was living at 69 Elphin Road according to the 1943 electoral roll, but was not mentioned in Harry's death notice in The Examiner on 2 Sep 1940.
