Albert Walter Joscelyne, born in Launceston on 7 Jul 1869, was the eldest of ten children of Charles Walter Joscelyne (c.1845-1911) and his wife Mary Ann Gould (c.1847-1914). Albert was educated at Thomas Hogg's school. An accountant, he worked at the Launceston Gas Company and later joined the Tasmanian Permanent Executors where he remained until he retired. He was a violinist, a member of the Launceston Philharmonic Society, the Launceston Leidertafal and St Paul's Church Choir. He played 1st violin in the Exhibition Orchestra in 1891-92.
Albert was a keen bowler and yachtsman, and a member of the Nil Desperandum Cricket Club. For more than 30 years he was a member of the board of the Launceston Mechanics' Institute. Albert married Emily Ella Tibbs on 9 Nov 1898 at St John's Church, Hobart; they did not have any children. Emily died on 12 May 1932 aged 63. After Albert's death, on 9 Mar 1950, the album of passport photos taken for the Tasmanian Exhibition in 1891-92 was gifted from his estate by his nephew, Rupert W J Hart, to the Launceston Library. Rupert was the son of Violet Hart, Albert's sister.
Albert, aged 80, was buried at Carr Villa with his wife in Section B 53. See The Examiner 7 Jul 2007, page 35.
